i have officially put myself back in the game for engineering jobs in nashville. what does that mean? who knows. if i get a job, i'll take it- i actually want to have a daily schedule and a salary and to not be living in a dorm and to live with normal, sane people (see below). please join me in praying that something pans out. and if you know anyone that could help me get hooked up- shoot me their info.
the divine irony in all this is that i know that i really want to be an architect some day. but- that requires three more years of grad school, which frankly i can't afford right now, nor do i actually want to spend three years in arch grad school. but some day... i would love to go to architecture school. until then, i really enjoy engineering and miss it a lot.
in all the free time i've had in LA, i've been on the hunt for the city's best mocha. my top three right now are Coffee Bean, Intelligentsia, and Urth- and despite how popular those places are, i have yet to actually see a celebrity i recognize there. although, Coffee Bean might be cheating: they serve mocha lattes, not mocha cafes, so by default they're creamier and sweeter. the downside? they don't serve drinks in a mug, like the other two do.
so when i'm not doing homework or at the coffee bars, what do i do? i check out a LOT of new music. i don't really know how i find it- i just do i guess- and then i listen to it while playing tiny wings or cleaning the kitchen or something. oh, and something that would make some of you (especially jane and karen) proud: i'm finally learning how to cook stuff well. i'm experimenting with flavors and methods a lot, and making sure i always cook when really hungry so even if it tastes bad i'll eat it.
about my roommates: they are, yes, crazy. for example, daniel watches the goriest, angriest war movies and then puts on something like He's Just Not That Into You ("it's not a romcom, it's just a... comedy! no, it's just a movie about the real world. this is how girls actually act after college") while checking the class catalog for the fall and notes that no professors are assigned classes yet ("they FIRED all my professors?!"). unfortunately, because it was chilly in LA last night, and raining pretty dank hard, i stayed in the apartment while this was going on and could hear both discussion about how we're in Iraq for the plastics, and how badly we need to deploy troops in Egypt to obtain their resources.
the end result? having this song stuck in my head. hey, at least she's from Nashville.
(it's a video of Erin McCarley - Love, Save The Empty for those of you who can't see it... it's a song at the end of He's Just Not That Into You)
love and other drugs,
chase
